Thailand, Bankok 6

Spent the day visiting a couple of markets and taking a canal trip. Not the one I anticipated but one I enjoyed and which gave me some insight into the more rural life that some Thai people lead. I'm not sure how to describe the actual terrain but access to some form of water based transport would probably be essential. One of the markets was the so called 'floating market', a tourist attraction in these parts. I guess I built up a picture of some sort of boat flotilla serving onto a jetty. Nothing like!  I think that was the case in years gone by, but whilst it has retained its name, its now quite a modern land based affair with only a smattering of floating stalls. In fact, the first market I visited was more water based and to my mind much more authentic. It was almost entirely given over to food - the floating market too, and as is my habit I gave it a good shot. So far developed was the floating market that I sat eating lunch to the accompaniment of a kareoke.  Have you ever listened to the Thai version of the beach boys 'rain in california' eating lunch? And the guy hadn't even had a drink!! Last day in Bangkok tomorrow. May do the canal trip I planned today but will definitely visit the grand palace.  Pictures from the day start with the markets and move on to the canal trip. Nothing too exciting I'm afraid!!
Much love,
G x
